Methodist Sociologist Outlines Church Extension Trends
Dr. Robert L. Wilson, a Philadelphia Methodist research specialist, says the six year downward trend in new church formation is understandable and likely to persist into the 1960s with a surge in the 1970s. He cites apartment growth, suburban shifts, and anti church sentiment, plus rising need in urban Negro communities, as factors shaping future church extension and calls for new approaches across mainline denominations.
