Astros lock up Jose Altuve on four year extension
Houston will keep the 23 year old second baseman through 2017 with a 2018 and 2019 option. General Manager Jeff Luhnow touted Altuve as the face of the franchise and leader on and off the field. Altuve has been a standout since debuting in 2011, making an All Star at 22 in 2012 and earning team MVP honors the same year. He leads AL second basemen in 2013 with 21 steals and 74 double plays turned while batting .280 with 15 doubles and 3 homers through mid season. The agreement aligns with a long term plan to retain top talent in Houston.
