Barbers Hill coach Darrell Richardson’s contentious era and career
Darrell Richardson known as Pudge or Pudgy, coached Barbers Hill Eagles from 1973 to 1977 after a long run as assistant and head coach. A controversial two part Baytown Sun story in 1977 preceded non renewal amidst a 5-5 season. Joe Evans later became head coach. Richardson recalls mentors Lloyd Kelly and Dr. Bill Farmer, credits Foots Jackson for field upkeep, and notes his teams won three district titles in five seasons.
