Bridge Renovation Planned for Goose Creek Span

TXDOT will renovate the Business 146 bridge over Goose Creek later this year with bids expected in November. Spokeswoman Janelle Gloar says the 50-year-old structure has provided solid service but needs major work to address eventual degradation while officials emphasize there is no immediate danger. Baytown residents push to restart local NAACP chapter

Baytown activists gathered to raise funds at a barbecue to cover half of the 30 dollar new member fee for an NAACP chapter. Trixie Washington leads the effort, aiming to recruit at least 100 members and reestablish a local branch after a previous one faded. Officers from Uni NAACP and Citizens of Baytown participated in planning discussions at a community forum.

Baytown Native Honored by U S Congress for Public Service

Baytown native Michael Gillette, longtime archivist, received a U S Senate commendation for 12 years at the National Archives and now serves as executive director of the Texas Council of Humanities in Austin.
