Goat Island Resurfaces in Baytown project revives historic land
The U S Army Corps of Engineers and the Port of Houston Authority, with the Beneficial Uses Group, plan a two island project by October 2004 to deepen and widen the Houston Ship Channel. A 70 acre north island and 120 acre south island will rise 8 to 14 feet, serving as nesting habitat for brown pelicans and terns and reducing ship wake erosion. Managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife and Baytown, the project will restore 40 acres along San Jacinto State Park and involve 300000 tons of limestone rock for the containment dikes.

Baytown police bust drug lab on Park Street
Baytown officers seized a methamphetamine lab in a Park Street residence during a Thursday search warrant. Stephen Tomlinson, 56, was arrested on possession of chemicals for meth production and intent to deliver, and felon in possession of a firearm. A 9 mm handgun was recovered.
