Youth Fair board plans a Sunday barbecue for fundraiser. Funeral services held for Belle Johnson of Princeton WV sister of local resident B E Sutphin. Blue Birds group meets at San Jacinto Methodist to plan Galveston Beach Party. East Harris County Bar Auxiliary hosts monthly lunch at Holly Inn.
The Carbon Black Division of J. M. Huber Corporation announces a pilot plant and two new buildings at its Baytown Eldon plant. The pilot plant costs about 500 005 dollars with Brown and Rogt as contractor. The new office and laboratory are estimated at 71 000 dollars. Verne Spake, civil engineer, oversees construction.
Five Marines were fed and wounded in two bloody engagements near Da Nang. About 22 Viet Cong were killed in the larger fight as Leatherman necks swept through rice paddies with two F4B Phantoms providing air support. In the second action a Marine reconnaissance unit aided an embattled government position.
A nine year old La Porte boy, James Dyer, was killed Monday night after being struck near the heart by a pitched ball during a Pee Wee Baseball League playoff at the San Jacinto Street field. The funeral is set for Lomax Baptist Chapel with burial at Grandview Memorial Cemetery. Jim Price said the championship games were canceled.
Police patrolman C E Heering and Sergeant Charlie Cowin solved a night disturbance near Pearl Street involving phisi tapandry bags filled with natural gas attached to toilet paper. The bags were lit to burn and release the balloons, a dangerous act that could ignite shingles or cause an explosion. authorities warn residents the practice is hazardous.
In Santo Domingo the rival Dominican factions endorsed Hector Garcia Godoy as provisional president under an OAS peace plan. The agreement, reached after days of talks, aims to bridge major divergences before a six to nine month path to elections, with both sides pressured by weary Dominicans.
Baytown’s Jadeer Con, a 1961 Robert E. Lee High School graduate and Lamar Tech sophomore, is headed for international appeal. He appeared at the New York World’s Fair IRCA Pavilion, sang coast to coast on Vincent Lopez ABC radio, and TV on Larry Kane’s Channel 13. His records on Le Mans label and praise in Cash Box and Billboard push toward stardom with bookings across Texas and beyond.
Mrs. W. A. Goodrich Jr, Precinct 203 election judge, opposes plans by County Commissioner W. V. Ramsey to shift the south boundary of Precinct 203 Cedar Bayou to meet the Baytown city limit. She argues it would force voters into Precincts 249 and 12, increasing travel and confusion for Cedar Bayou residents as annexation expands city boundaries. She notes Precinct 103 has about 5,001 voters while Precinct 249 and 32 each hold around 1,775 to 1,870. polling at Stephen F. Austin School would move into city limits, complicating access. She accuses political pressure of driving the changes and stresses voters’ convenience and wishes are rarely considered.

Baytown school officials discussed potential federal aid totaling up to $500,000 with several programs under the 1963 Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Deputy Supt Hinson outlined Title I funds estimated at $2,000 for low income students, II funds around $20,000 for library and instructional materials, and further plans for Head Start and other services pending TEA approval.
Baytown school trustees awarded a 1708 contract to Matherne's for printing 14 000 football programs for five home games. The vote split with Hill abstaining and others not present, after debate over bidding and out of town bids. Athletic Director Stallworth recommended Matherne's. board also approved other bids for tractor equipment and roof repairs. The district will seek competitive bids next year and push for broader bidding outside the local area.

Dallas Yaney, 49, of Houston, drowned while crabbing near Baytown on Highway 146. His body was recovered from about 15 feet of water near pilings after diving accident. Police and Baytown volunteers aided, with Yaney pronounced dead at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital and an autopsy ordered by Harris County Coroner.
