Moonwalking astronaut Cernan tied to Baytown legacy abroad
Wanda Orton recalls Apollo 17 commander Eugene Cernan and his Baytown connection through Barbara Jean Atchley, a Lee High School graduate, whose early life in Baytown and Nassau Bay intersected with Cernan’s path from Continental stewardess to NASA astronaut. The piece notes Cernan’s space career, Purdue ties, and the famous Apollo 11 through Apollo 17 milestones, including traces left in lunar dust.
