Voters May Be Asked To OK Jail Bonds
Harris County officials discussed crowding at the jail and a possible multi million dollar bond issue next fall to fund jail expansion. Commissioner Lyons said plans include adding floors to the Harris County Courthouse jail building to increase capacity, with up to four floors estimated at 2.6 million dollars. Present jail built for 600 prisoners now houses over 50, and inmates sleep in the dining hall. An alternative is a county prison farm.
