In Walmart parking lot, two men were arrested on charges related to attempting to sell a stolen pickup. Police report details indicate the suspects were detained after undercover units intervened. Investigators say the truck had been reported stolen earlier in the week.
Rebekah Dowdy, 44, was indicted by a Liberty County grand jury on a charge of endangering a child in connection with the Aug 14 2012 death of her 18 month old granddaughter. She was arrested about midnight Monday and remained jailed with no bond. Her nephew Jack Hollis, who cared for the child, was already indicted on a related injury to a child charge.
Supporters gathered Wednesday outside Baytown Police Station to press for justice for Roberto de la Cruz, convicted in the November 1998 murder of Jorge Pena. They claim wrongful conviction aided by a biased informant and contested eyewitness accounts, noting de la Cruz’s prior offences.

The city council plans official action tonight at Baytown City Hall on an Industrial District Agreement with Chevron Phillips Chemical to fund six new police officers and three vehicles. The deal would provide 1.8 million dollars in advance funding over four years to cover officers vehicles and related costs, mirroring a recent ExxonMobil arrangement though with a 100 percent reimbursable fourth year.
