Oil leak caps temporary effort to halt Gulf spill

Robotic submarines freed a leaking cap a mile underwater, allowing millions of gallons to flow into the sea for at least two days until a new seal can be installed. Officials warn the delicate operation may fail and the permanent bottom plug is planned for mid August. Coast Guard spokesman Capt. James McPherson cautioned that fixing the leak is not simple. BP aims to install a tighter cap by Monday to begin containment efforts.
