Heartwarming Handwritten Poems Support Breast Cancer Care
JoEllen Ball of Highlands writes poetry for Girls Love Mail, a group that sends handwritten and sometimes art filled letters to anonymous women diagnosed with breast cancer. The project began after a friend’s diagnosis and now distributes over 70,000 letters yearly, plus a collected book Dear Friend. Ball, a retired chemical plant accountant, coordinates and writes while balancing family and health challenges, grateful for recipients’ thanks and the belief in healing spirits through words.
