Tragic holiday boating death of 12-year-old Tarkington girl
A 12-year-old Tarkington girl, Sammi Butler, died when a boat in Trinity Bay struck an underwater dredge pipe near the mouth of the Trinity River. Her father and three other passengers, including his son and grandson, were aboard. authorities said the deadly impact caused severe trauma and the father located his daughter's body after the crash. The tragedy occurred just before 11 a.m. with the boat near a submerged piping hazard.
