Baytown council members estimated that approving a $5-a-month raise for policemen could raise property taxes by 17 to 18 cents if funds come from tax revenue, with $108,000 yearly added. Officials noted salaries in water and sewer aren’t tax funded and discussed broader city wage considerations and stalled plans for next year’s budget.
Harris County grand jury invited Commissioners Court to meet July 16 to discuss jail conditions. Judge Elliott said there will be no subpoenas and the jail will be the only topic.
