13 Year Old Tests Law With Haircut
A 13 year old Mississippi boy, Eugene Young, was given a haircut at the Hotel Muehlebach barber shop in Kansas City as a test of the new civil rights law. CORE had demonstrated after he was initially refused service, then later permitted a cut as two more Negro delegates would be served. The barber stated the shop was booked but open to business for additional delegates.

Mrs. Ima-May Rogers 80 Dies After Stroke in Baytown
Ima May Rogers aged 80, a 47 year Baytown resident, mother of Chester Rogers and a known newspaper man, died at Gulf Coast Hospital after a six week stroke. Funeral 1 pm Saturday at Paul U. Lee Chapel officiated by Rev. Burnette Dowler. She lived at 306 EX Humble, born in Alto, Cherokee County, lived in Brazoria, Alvin, Galveston before moving to Goose Creek oil boom days. Survived by husband’s death, son Chester, three daughters, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sister Etta Moore and several in Baytown. charter member First Presbyterian Church, past noble grand Goose Creek Rebekah Lodge, active in Baytown Golden Age Club, honorary Goose Creek Pioneer Student Association.

Negro Man 24 Charged In Assault On White Girl
John Lemond, 24, jailed on aggravated assault charges after allegedly grabbing a 16 year old white girl at Highlands Little League ballpark. A car near the park burned at 1 am and Lemond fled, was recaptured by Deputy Fisk. Capt George said there is no proof of connection between the fire and the assault.
