Baytonian 38 Years Dies Rites Friday
Ludwig Mahler 75 of 238 Gresham Baytown resident for 35 years died Wednesday afternoon at home. Funeral services set for 2 pm Friday at Earthman Chapel with Rev. Robert Cheek officiating. Burial Cedar Crest Cemetery under Earthman Funeral Home direction. Survivors include his widow Lola, two sisters Amalia Mahler and Louis Koch, three nieces Ida Louise Sample, Elsie Lowrey, and Erma Beil. He worked 27 years as storehouse clerk at Humble Oil Baytown Refinery, retired 1953.

Highway 10 opens to Louisiana link completing Houston to Orange stretch
The final 1.4 mile section of Interstate 10 between Houston and the Louisiana border was opened, completing 107 miles from Houston to Orange. Dedication drew about 150 residents as Herbert C. Perry Jr. placed the last bolt near the Chambers Jefferson County line. Construction began January 14, 1963, at a total cost of 90 million dollars, with 24 million spent in Harris County. The Texas Highway Department notes the link should reduce Texas traffic deaths and cost about 841 thousand dollars per mile, higher than the state average.
