Cross-ruff technique and trumps endgame in contract bridge

North is dealer, both sides vulnerable. South faces 4NT and 5Y, with a 4-1 trump break risk. A deep cross-ruff plan contrasts with a safer line counting tricks, suggesting cashing clubs after the opening lead, ruffing with honors, returning to dummy, and drawing trumps to maximize chances while avoiding overruff risk.

Baytown Girl Scouts Need Leaders for Growth

Baytown’s Girl Scout units highlight a year of learning grooming homemaking and hospitality with Miss Mabel Jones and Miss Ruth McGary guiding seventh graders at Horace Mann and Troop 24 planning puppet shows and a radio play. Jacksonville Urges State Highway Relocation Plan

A Jacksonville delegation pressed the State Highway Commission Friday to study relocating U.S. 69 through the city as part of a long-range plan. The proposal, led by Mayor R. C. Bucknat, would cost about 300000 to the state and 125000 to Jacksonville, eliminating a dog leg and requiring 23 miles of construction, with possible grade separation of Missouri Pacific tracks. Commission members urged doing the job right and noted the protest from southern Jacksonville residents over right of way and trees along the route.

Hiway Committee Backs Valley Freeway Plan Talk

Texas Highway Commission expressed support Friday for long range planning of a four lane U S 281 highway from San Antonio to the Rio Grande Valley. A Hidalgo county delegation led by Milton D Richardson asked a survey on location and a notice to six counties of required right of way. Thornton urged counties to show strong will to proceed, noting moves to acquire right of way along the corridor and warning that plans may be bought as a “bill of goods” if enthusiasm is insufficient.
