Baytown Fire & Rescue fought two large house fires over the weekend. At 9 p.m. Friday crews responds to Hackberry Lane in Lakewood, with four engine companies and one ladder company. The front suffered smoke damage while the back, including two bedrooms, was gutted. Firefighters contained the blaze in about an hour and were called back early Sunday for small re ignitions. Investigators believe several factors prompted the Bonita Way fire in central Baytown.
The Sterling Municipal Library outlined changes to its floor plan at the Friends of the Library gathering with about 30 attendees. Large print titles and popular mysteries move to the front, encyclopedias to the back, and catalog computers placed in stacks. A print station will be added in the children's area and new furniture plus grouped printing services are planned, says Head Librarian Katherine Brown.
Air Products Inc announced on Monday that its Baytown Texas and Convent Louisiana plants are now operational. The company is bringing on six facilities in the United States and Canada over ten months, expanding production across North America.
The Baytown plant at 5503 W Baker Rd now produces 70 MMSCFD of hydrogen, a 35 percent capacity increase, boosting annual hydrogen and syn gas sales by about 1.3 billion and linking to the West Gulf Coast pipeline serving Exxon Mobil and other customers. Air Products notes cleaner fuels through sulfur removal.
Harris County Commissioners awarded Ramos Industries a 1.2 million contract to improve a drainage ditch feeding Goose Creek in McNair. The project will extend the concrete channel from Ward Road to Harrison Road and upgrade open roadside drainage with box culverts from Harlem Road to Harris Road. Construction starts in March and runs through October.
