Voting Registration To End At Midnight Friday

Baytown Rep. Allen Named Vice Chairman of Data Panel

Speaker Gus F. Mutscher appoints State Rep. Joe Allen of Baytown as vice chairman of the House data processing and printing committee, one of the youngest in the 61st Legislature. The five member panel, led by Carl A. Parker, oversees state use of computers and printing. Allen also serves on conservation and reclamation counties public land and buildings and liquor regulation. He works in Baytown at Citizens National Bank and Trust Co and holds multiple local and state affiliations. The Allens reside at 5315 Bayway Drive and have a daughter, Sydney Lisa.

Baytown Pioneers Recall Life In The 1900s

Edward L. Scott and Esther recall Cedar Bayou life near 6330 Stolander Road. They describe one room school days, three months of schooling, homemade lunches, and land borders without boundaries. Scott recalls 50 years with Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge, brick trade, ship traffic, and rabbit markets. The 1915 hurricane memory also figures in.

City Tax Payments Due Friday

City Tax Assessor-Collector Q. M. Coe Jr. urged taxpayers to pay current taxes by Friday to avoid delinquent penalties. Mail postmarks dated Friday will be accepted without penalty. Humble Oil Refining Co. paid $741,622.68 this week, about 32.6 percent of the city tax roll, not including its industrial district payment of $274,454.76. Humble’s payments total $998,800.67 this year, up $17,456.77 from last year.
