Thring's robot to end housework and drudgery

Prof Meredith Wooldridge Thring of Queen Mary College envisions a home robot within 18 years that will lay and clear tables, make beds, dust, wash and iron clothes, scrub and cook food, and recharge itself. He argues the motor industry could supply such machines for about the price of a small car, noting emotional tasks remain beyond a robot. He warns of implications for education and employment, proposing retraining for maintenance roles and creative shifts for people once freed from routine labor.
