Unemployment to level off as economists predict
Government economists forecast unemployment may start dropping in March with a leveling off next month. Labor data show 134,000 new claims last week, down 34,000 from before. Improved weather and pre Easter shopping are expected to boost seasonal hiring, though factory unemployment may lag. The Census Bureau estimates unemployment at 2.36 million for early month, up from 1.85 million in December.

In a 2500 mile voyage from Tahiti to Hawaii, a 51 foot schooner named Venturer arrived with Kim Robin Powell six and Jeanne Anne Powell two aboard. The children had been under court guardianship in Tahiti after their custody dispute delayed a divorce. The mother, Mrs Pogey Powell, seeks Honolulu court custody return while claiming the trip was to raise them as Americans. Powell’s husband met them on the dock in Hilo after intercepting the voyage.
