Legendary Griffith Oak Sparks Mont Belvieu Lore
Local lore centers on a giant oak near Mont Belvieu linked to Henry Griffith Sr and a buried treasure box. Treasure seekers reportedly dug around the tree and a brick vault was found 75 feet away. A historical marker, funded by descendants including David Griffith and Charlotte Carley, is planned this spring to honor the family.
