Marker honors Mont Belvieu landowner Henry Griffith Park
State approves a historical marker for Henry Griffith, the first US citizen landowner in Mont Belvieu, to be unveiled this spring in the Joe Matthews Park area of Old River subdivision. The sign will recognize Griffith’s 1828 land grant and early role beside his wife Amelia Barrow Moody, with descendants noting the historical correction.

Baytown Nature Center reopening delayed to May
The Baytown Nature Center reopening is postponed to May to ensure quality. City spokesman Gary Smith said officials want everything in place before opening and may hold a ceremony with a Brownwood homecoming. The site preserves remnants of Brownwood, once a 400-home neighborhood destroyed by two hurricanes Alicia and others. The center, partly funded by Lyondell Chemical and Texas Parks and Wildlife grants, includes wetlands, flushing channels, a gazebo, a fresh water pond, and other improvements costing about 510000.
