No Radiation Feared Three Men Dead In Bomber Crash
A multimillion dollar jet bomber carrying two unarmed nuclear weapons crashed near Goldsboro North Carolina. Three crew members were killed and five others parachuted to safety. The Air Force said there was no danger of nuclear explosion or radiation. One weapon was jettisoned and parachuted to safety while the second was recovered from the wreck. The plane from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base was returning for an emergency landing after fuel trouble. Pilot Maj Walter F Tulloch walking to report the crash later appeared at a farmer's home to notify authorities. Survivors included Lt William R Wilson Capt Richard W Bardin Lt A C Mattocks and Capt Paul E Brown. Additional crew were Maj Eugene Shelton Maj Eugene Richards and T Set Francis R Barnish.
