Shoemake shot himself through the brain in a suicide attempt January. He was removed from the critical list but remains in a coma. Both Senate and House panels tied up other business as they prepared to meet again this week.
Early Monday a fire at 1133 Elgin street West Acres Channelview destroyed a home. Clifford Wesbrook, 10, and his brother Terry, 11, jumped from a second story window after flames spread, suffering severe burns. They were treated on scene and transported to Community hospital in Jacinto City. their father, a Houston docks longshoreman, was away at work.
In Sugarland Texas a Bartown prisoner, William R. Crawford 21, escaped from Central prison farm Mendas. He was serving a two year term for felony theft in Harris county and was due for discharge April 10 1856. Crawford walked off during seed sorting as rain made field work impractical.

Charges filed against Howard Hoffpauir for malicious destruction of personal property and an EAPO violation, and Hosey Gray who admitted cutting a pocket knife. Additional incidents included a shooting report, a minor car accident, a stolen vehicle, pants theft, and a nuisance disturbance at Ashbel Smith school.
W. L. Moody III, cut from his father’s 340 million estate, goes to probate and district court in Galveston Monday to contest the will. The Moody Foundation seeks an injunction against oral depositions as hearings begin amid claims of lack of capacity and alleged undue influence involving Moody and heirs.
