Right Wing Effort to Oust Straus Falls Short in Texas House
Right wing groups led by Empower Texans pressured Texas House members to remove Speaker Joe Straus but failed. Straus retained strong support with 132 aye votes to 15 nay, while 2 presented and 1 absent. Groups face limits of influence and must prove in 2012 GOP primaries they can back challengers. Straus urged civility and house autonomy, saying the will of the House guides itself and all members deserve a voice. Contact included for further information.
