Russians Release William Verdine
BERLIN January 2 Russians freed American Pvt William A Verdine after nearly six years in captivity. The 28 year old soldier from Starks Kentucky was handed to U S authorities in Berlin and rushed to a military hospital for a full physical. An Army announcment said Verdine will remain under military restriction while the circumstances of his absence without leave are thoroughly investigated. Verdine disappeared from his unit in West Germany February 3 1949 and was listed A W O L. An Army spokesman said he will be under guard at the hospital.
