The Southern Baptists of Texas Convention votes to disaffiliate Faith Harbour at 2206 Morning Drive for violating a constitutional provision on affirming or endorsing homosexual behavior. The church, operating about four years and serving roughly 50 weekly, is the first to be removed for such a violation since 1998. It holds a Sunday night worship service and two weekly Bible studies.
SBTC cuts ties with Faith Harbour Baptist Church in Baytown after a credentials committee questioned the church's link to a new ministry Eklektos which began meeting on site. The ministry promotes inclusive welcome for LGBTQ individuals. An attempt to resolve differences with pastor Randy Haney failed at the December 20 meeting, leading to a letter of intent to disaffiliate.
Liberty Tax Service will reward blood donors with free tax preparation certificates during a Friday blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2200 Garth Road. Gwenda LaCroix, owner, urged donors that certificates are first come, first served, with the event continuing over the next three weeks.

The event includes free food, a children's moon walk, a prize spinning wheel, and certificates to reduce tax preparation costs to 20 dollars during peak season. Miss Liberty will crown attending children, and the first 1,000 visitors receive a T-shirt. Liberty Tax also collects cell phones at the event.
AARP begins tax relief training for its Tax Aid program. The nationwide service assists low and middle income taxpayers including those 60 and older. Tax returns are prepared Feb 2 through April 15, with sessions at Sterling, Stratford Highlands, Galena Park and North Channel libraries on varying days and hours. About 32,000 IRS certified volunteers support the program with confidential service.
A 30 ton crane toppled onto an Exxon Mobil propylene pipeline near Bayway Drive causing closure while crews depressurize the line. Exxon officials report no product release and the pipeline remains intact as depressurization and repairs are assessed. No injuries were reported.
