C. E. Zerwekh addressed the U. S. Navy Reserve unit in Houston on Wednesday. He heads the technical information section at the Baytown Research center and spoke on relativity.
At a special meeting the council awarded a slip-joint cast iron pipe contract to Construction Co. of Houston for 53 519 83, while a rival cement asbestos pipe bid of 46 409 32 was criticized as influencing future bids. Eight delegates from East Harris County plan a trip to Austin to urge the State Highway Commission to add Fairmont Parkway from La Porte to the Gulf Freeway to the state system. Harris County Commissioners Court will lead the group with La Porte and Bayshore business leaders. They also seek approval for plans to serve the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center at Clear Lake and to speed Highway 14 south from La Porte to the Galveston County line.
Cape Canaveral reports the Ranger lunar mission scheduled for next Monday has been postponed at least a month because of technical difficulties with the Atlas booster. No new launch date is set. The Ranger 3 firing is one of three major US space efforts from Cape Canaveral, along with John Glenn Jr orbit attempt and a five satellite launch.

Texas Attorney General Will Wilson filed an injunction suit in Austin naming the State Loan and Finance Management Corp of Washington United Finance and Thrift Co of Dallas and subsidiaries, alleging usurious rates above 16 percent and excessive service charges across multiple Texas cities including Baytown, Houston, Dallas and San Angelo. Former Baytown mayor R H y jaley and city manager I BR Le Red say Pruett is one of three Harris County men drafted as candidates for the state legislature by two groups meeting in Houston. Mayors and councilmen association and Texas Municipal League drafted a resolution urging Pruett Philipol and Verrigon to run. They will deliver 1 50 0 deer hides donated by Baytown hunters to a taxidermist for treatment and distribution to Texas State hospitals for patients. The trip includes attendance at the Sportsmen's Club of Texas two day meeting with officers to be elected.
Funeral services for Jimmie Russell Blair aged 26 of Sam Houston Courts are set for 3 p.m. Friday in Earthman Chapel. Blair, a Baytown newspaper dealer and lifelong resident, died at 2 a.m. Thursday in a Houston hospital. Interment will follow at Hill of Rest Cemetery under the direction of Earthman Funeral Home.
