Patrice Lumumba and two close associates have been moved to Katanga Province jails after army confinement near Leopoldville was deemed insecure. Swedish UN troops reported Lumumba badly bruised as Katanga police, under Muise Tshombe, delivered the prisoners to Jadotville, near Elisabethville.

Embezzlement charge linked to Baytown banker
FBI announced a Baytown banker, W. C. Sanders, 52, former vice president of Peoples State Bank, is charged with embezzlement and forged note entries. Sanders was arraigned on two counts and released on 2000 dollars bond after admitting responsibility for a 10,000 dollar shortage. The alleged false entry occurred November 9, 1960 on the bank's loans ledger. Sanders has long ties to Baytown and the local banking community.

Fenton to retire after decades at Baytown refinery
John E. Fenton, longtime Baytown resident and Humble Oil veteran, retires Feb 1 after 39 years at the Baytown Refinery. A Beeville native who moved to Baytown in 1919, he survived a 2400 volt accident in Wak, returned to work, and spent years in electrical supervision before leaving. He and his wife have two children and three grandchildren, and his plans include home improvement projects at Oasis Ridge.
