Taipei Formosa January 18 reports say Red China began a full scale invasion of Yikiangshan Island with an amphibious landing aided by air and naval bombardment. Nationalist defense ministers report a battalion with artillery repelling two separate landing attempts as over 70 Chinese bombers, escorted by MIG-15 fighters, destroy supplies sent to the Tachens. The U S Seventh Fleet remains deployed to protect Formosa and the Tachens in the South China Sea crisis.
