Senate committee trims spending in Texas bills

In Austin AP reporting the Senate Finance Committee cut 204 500 from three major measures to offset a 423 000 general revenue deficit. A 100 000 tourist advertising cut led the way, with 81 000 shaved from a San Jacinto monument repair bill and 23 000 from juvenile parole officer funding. The panel then left the bills without final action as leaders prepared for the Banking and State Affairs panels to take up related measures. The House paused amid session discussions with Governor Price Daniel’s agenda reactive to smaller bills.

Donnelly Appointed to Baytown Civil Service Post

Raymond Donnelly a 41 year old accountant and attorney from Baytown has been sworn in by the City Council to fill the unexpired term of K Edge on the Baytown Civil Service Commission. The term runs to January 1965. Donnelly works for Humble Oil Baytown refinery and is a 35 year resident, a member of the Harris County and Texas Bar Associations, with City Attorney George Chandler presiding at the ceremony.

Court of Criminal Appeals Voids Contempt Citation

In Austin the Court of Criminal Appeals today struck down a contempt of court citation against Hounton. The three-judge panel did not address the plaintiff reporter Margaret Davis's claim that the contempt order violated the public's right to know. The State Railroad Commission dropped the February pattern to a record low eight days for seven straight months last year.

Smith Re-Elected As Country Club Leader

Smith was re-elected president of Goose Creek Country Club Tuesday night by the board of directors. He starts his second term with Jol M. City Bond Ballot On Jan 27 for Baytonians

Baytown Council Okays Route Plan for Bonded Streets
