Pair Found Slashed To Death In Summer Cottage

Stocky Carl Bruce Harris, 20, is held without bond on murder charges after the slashing deaths of Mrs. William D. Morwood, 52, and Mrs. Martha Beene, 47, at the Morwoods summer cottage near Bachlff. Investigators noted no forced entry, blood on a butcher knife, and money missing from a purse. Morwood co owned a Houston furniture company. Harris had been in the Morwoods' care since infancy.

Two Barrett Station twins shot after speeding stop

Two former Barrett Station residents, twins Louis and Luther Eagleton, were shot by Deputy Constable Abram Kerr at about 12:30 a.m. Monday after being stopped for speeding. Louis listed in fair condition with a lower abdomen wound, Luther in critical condition with a bullet near the left hip. Both are Houston residents. Kerr fired after being jumped. Case to go before Harris County Grand Jury.

Changes Announced For Science And Math Fair

Arthur Hodges, science coordinator, announced major changes for the 1957 Baytown Science and Mathematics Fair. Junior High Schools will hold individual fairs before the city-wide event at Sterling High School on March 17 and 18. Public School Week runs March 6 to 10 with junior fairs on various dates. About 50 senior high and 450 junior high exhibits are expected, with top four junior winners advancing to the city-wide show and Houston Science Fair entries. Judging for the city-wide fair is March 13. exhibits open to the public March 13 at 2 p.m. and awards at 5 p.m. Senior high judging and junior fair times vary by school.

Green Glow Barium Cloud Seen Over Bay Area

Public officials and news media report a cigar shaped green glow in the east over the Bay town Houston area. Pensacola sources say the green hue came from a barium cloud released from a Nike Iroquois rocket at Pensacola Air Force Base at 5 45 am Monday. The cloud dispersed into balloon shapes as sunlight touched it and drifted northeast, producing the visible glow despite the east to west firing direction.
