Police Chief Roy Montgomery and city officials plan West Sterling as a one way street to ease congestion. A traffic count will run Friday and Saturday to determine the preferred flow direction.
Lutherans at St Pauls Church in Baytown hold an annual congregational meeting Friday with A A Halle presiding to elect officers and adopt the budget. The Baytown Boat Club will install new officers at its annual banquet Saturday at Riverview Inn with H H Read becoming commodore and F A Hargraves presiding. dancing will follow.

Rain fell in extreme West Texas Friday and forecasters warned of more showers Friday night and Saturday as a new cold front traverses the state. The disturbance, currently in the eastern Dakotas to Utah, is expected to reach Texas Friday night with light prefrontal showers. Meteorologists say the front will bring cooler but not severe temperatures.
City records show 1954 permits total 3,213,160 with 478 issued by Tax Assessor C. E. B. Hanratty. Dwelling activity reached 2,010,010 as 175 new homes were added and major projects included a 30,000 dollar fire station. January led the year in value. 21 commercial projects totaled 545,420 and repairs 452,560. Hanratty called the year successful and forecast 1965 growth.
Robert Beverly named president of the Baytown Real Estate Board at a banquet in Humble Dining Room. new officers included Mrs. WH Avey as vice president and Osburn Johnson as secretary treasurer. remarks highlighted active involvement at local state and national levels in real estate. Houston visitors attended including George McCauso and C H Bell.
La Porte will sell a new 360000 sewer bond issue on Feb 1 to extend sewer service to the Sylvan Beach addition and the western La Porte area. City commissioners canvassed the bond election returns from last Saturday, which passed with a vote of 1 to 3 against. Bids on the bonds will be opened at 1 am on Feb 1, and there is no plan to raise the tax rate to finance the bonds.
A woman slipped past Capitol guards to approach Speaker Rayburn and urge calm in a five minute speech. She did not speak, but her intrusion prompted House attendants to tighten floor security as 36 new freshmen entered the chamber among 485 members.
Washington on January 14 congressional leaders predict President Eisenhower will face opposition to a modified universal military training plan. The plan would train 100,000 youths annually for six months then reserve service for 9 1/2 years. Leaders say Eisenhower’s influence must push hearings on extending the draft, delaying the reserve program, and four year draft extensions with pay raises around 6.7 percent. Other items include a fight against communism, Dulles optimism on Indo China, new committee appointments, and a resolution protesting colored stripes on income tax folders.
Texas lawmakers adjourned for weekend as a $1.4 million pay raise bill for legislators and state officers hits a technical hurdle. Rep Curtis Ford argues that immediate passage may violate a joint rule. If approved, salaries would rise from 10 dollars a day to 25 for legislators and higher pay for top offices. constitutional amendment last November permits higher salaries pending appropriation. House members set bill priorities and consider additional measures while planning extended sessions.
E A Allison, a 30 year old truck driver for Bd y Transfer Co, refused credit for aiding two women during a Thursday fire at 122 West Main. He also selflessly helped a Moody family rescue a mother and two children in Chicago last summer. Allison credited others for initial efforts and noted his Baytown stay is brief with home in Tyler.

Crosby Jaycees plan to install street markers, parallel parking, and traffic signs. The project will be defined at the board of directors meeting Tuesday at 7 pm at the Crosby fire station. Committee members include FH Lintelman Jr, Billy Wailing, and Victor Adams Jr.
Pat Wylie eight, son of Mr and Mrs Roger Wylie of 308 Morrell, was bitten by a small white dog in the 300 block of Morrell while riding to school on Tuesday. The owner is unknown, and the dog must be found within nine days for rabies shots. three days have nearly passed.
United States officials, citing no deal for diplomatic recognition or a UN seat, said Friday there will be no exchange of the Red China seat for freedom of jailed American prisoners or a broader political settlement. Government notes indicate individual cases of detained Chinese students may be considered for exit permits, while U.S. objections to UN membership remain firm.
Heavy snowfall blanketed the Appalachians and northeastern states, closing many schools and blocking highways from West Virginia to Pennsylvania and New York City. Six inches fell at Flattop West Virginia, with two inches in Millsburg Pennsylvania and three in Wilkes Barre. The storm brought slick roads and fender damage citywide until sand crews cleared major streets. A cold front continued south into Florida.
