Stewardess foils attempted hijacking on Delta jet
A Delta Airlines flight from Detroit to Miami was halted when stewardess Lynne Sargeant blocked a passenger with a shotgun and locked the cockpit. Kenneth Earl McPeek, 31, of Orchard Lake Michigan, was arrested after the plane landed at Miami International Airport. His year old son was placed in protective custody. The incident followed two earlier hijackings and involved a Convair jet of Peru's APSA. The hijacker claimed to want Havana but surrendered after the cockpit door was secured.

Denver AP A nine day old walkout by nearly 60,000 oil workers looks close to settlement as Union Oil of California and the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union agree on a two year contract. First year pay rise 2 cents hour second year 18.5 cents plus increases for night work crafts insurance and pension totaling about 41.5 cents. If ratified in California the strike could end within 24 to 48 hours in those plants and set a pattern for 435 expired contracts nationwide.
