The Sun's official U.S. Weather Bureau gauge recorded 1.90 inches of rain in Baytown by noon Friday. The rain began just before midnight Thursday and continued falling at noon, with the temperature at 39 degrees.
Mrs. Cora M Casey assistant cashier at First National Bank was omitted from a story listing reelected officers at the annual meeting. She has been with the bank over 10 years and held the post for several years. Also notes on Mrs. Alfie Caldwell mother of Charles Caldwell of 2014 Caroline Baytown who died in Shepherd Texas Thursday night with funeral plans and survivors. Army Pvt Vernon L Phillips son of Mr and Mrs Richard Phillips of Crosby completed a cooking course at Fort Lee Virginia for Army mess halls and field eating.

U S Representative Bob Eckhardt, newly serving Texas Eighth District, will be in Baytown Monday January 23 at The Tower. A 1 to 4 p.m. constituent seminar will cover national and local issues, followed by 4 to 5 p.m. individual talks. Public invited by press invitation. Eckhardt succeeds the late Albert Thomas.
Baytown Rep Joe Allen was named to six House committees by Speaker Barnes, joining Harris County lawmakers who won five committee memberships. The Harris slate includes chair appointments for Bass, Duggan, Johnson and Whailey, with several key panels like Appropriations and Revenue and Taxation shaping county influence. Some dissent arose from Rep Benro Cruz over a missed Labor Committee seat.
Milton Curtis Lyons of Lyons Food Service 4500 N Pruett was hospitalized at San Jacinto Methodist after a Thursday afternoon crash at the Texas Avenue and Jones Street intersection. Lyons, said to be improving, faces at least 24 more hours in care. A Lee College student driving a car, Joseph D Burneston of Beaumont, was the other driver. Police noted nonworking Texas Avenue lights and ongoing investigation.
Construction begins on Wyatt's Cafeteria adjacent to TG&Y at Market Street Baytown. Pruett Construction of Baytown handles 11776 square foot facility costing about 113000 with a 70000 square foot parking lot for 152 cars. The TG&Y expansion adds 2120 square feet and features fabric sporting goods party and ready-to-wear sections with a new canopy and private dining room.
Senator John Tower of Texas plans a 21 day trip to the Far East beginning January 28. It will mark his third visit to Vietnam, with past trips in November 1965 and April of the previous year. He notes many changes in Vietnam operations since his last visit.
The city council approved an amendment to the traffic code establishing maximum speeds of 30 mph in most zones with specified 40 50 and 55 mph exceptions. Changes affect West Texas Avenue South Alexander Drive West Main Street and many others with a 10 day effective date from Thursday.
Baytown City Council voted five to one to approve a street use ordinance imposing a 2 percent gross receipts tax on communications and wire transmission services.
