Baytown native officer's legacy through SHSU fundraiser

Baytown native and SHSU alumnus Marcus Lee Zaruba died of cancer in 2009 at 29. His foundation funds criminal justice scholarships and supports police departments, with the Second Annual Jail Break Run in Baytown on Feb 11. Proceeds aid SHSU, Lee College, UH Police Academy, and the Helping a Hero Fund for officers and smaller departments.

Multiple thefts reported on Garth Road area and surroundings

A radio was stolen from a vehicle on Garth Road between 6 p.m. Monday and 7:15 a.m. Tuesday. A teal green 2001 Pontiac Montero van, license BV1D-255, was stolen from a Garth Road apartment complex where it was not operable. Items including a game system, computer, watches, and other belongings were taken from a residence on Garth Road between 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. A laptop was reported stolen from a Beech Street vehicle Tuesday afternoon. A pickup truck on Fawndale Way was broken into between 8 p.m. Sunday and 4 p.m. Tuesday with windows shattered.

Baytown Police Beat Reports 28 Offenses In 24 Hours

Baytown police logged 28 offense reports and investigated incidents from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning including one assault one auto theft one burglary three burglaries of vehicles one criminal mischief and one DWI. Nine other arrests and 11 additional reports were written. Two minor crashes were investigated.
