Where's Duke Hill Hidden in Baytown History
Wanda Orton, longtime Sun editor emeritus, recalls Baytown lore linking Duke Hill to Goose Creek Stream and the Bayland Orphanage era. The piece traces Mary Duke Troxell’s family, Jennie Duke’s arrival in 1869, land ancestry from Ashbel Smith through 19th century deeds, and the preference to call the area Granby rather than Duke Hill.
