Harris County Flood Bond Votes Help Burnet Scott and Crystal Bay
Absentee voting began in Houston for two flood control measures. A $30 million bond package would raise the tax rate eight cents over five years, while a five cent maintenance levy would rise gradually. Commissioner Ramsey says funds would seal rights of way for federal flood projects and back the Brownwood levee plan, with future levies possible to fund growth and development.

Lunar Probe Surveyor 7 Softly Sets on Tycho Crater
Pasadena dispatch reports Surveyor 7, last of a $500 million series, settled softly on the Tycho crater near the lunar south-central edge after a tense prelanding period labeled divine guidance by a space official. The craft, on a purely scientific mission, would survey a 15,000-foot crater despite a narrowly avoided dangerous encounter and televised scenes from the moon.

Heart Transplant Serum May Rule Out Rejection
Houston报道Dr. John J. Trentin of Baylor College of Medicine received a $5,823 emergency grant from the Houston Harris County Heart Association to advance a serum, anti lymphocyte globulin, aimed at reducing organ rejection after heart transplants. The serum could enter animal trials in 60 to 90 days and may lower the needed anti suppressive drugs, which increase infection risk. Trentin cautions rejection cannot be fully eliminated, but hopes to approach compatibility through this and related tissue typing efforts.
