Goose Creek school district students return to classes today as the new term begins across all grades. Schools reopen with standard schedules and renewed routines for the academic year.
Even after 18 years since 1989 no hard freeze has caused a major speckled trout kill in the Golden Crescent region. Anglers hope an anticipated cold spell in the next six weeks won’t bring a severe trout die-off.

Perry Price 46 a 20 year Goose Creek veteran and Lee High School math teacher died Saturday in a hunting accident off FM 1941 near Stowell. He was remembered for warmth humor and strong student focus by superintendent Barbara Sulis and sheriff Joe LaRive with colleagues and former students expressing grief. The incident occurred as Price leaned on a truck tailgate when a hunting dog moved triggering a shotgun blast. He died at Winnie Community Hospital.
Goose Creek Memorial High School introduces Bret Boyd as the new head football coach during a Monday evening ceremony in Sterling High School cafeteria. Over 100 attendees met with Boyd to hear a Q and A and tour facilities as the district marks eight months to the grand opening of Goose Creek CISD's Memorial High School.
The Baytown Citizen Police Academy begins January 15, a 10 week course held Thursdays from 6 30 to 9 30 pm at the Baytown Police Academy behind the department HQ on North Main. Officer Stewart Beasley says the program bridges gaps and clarifies daily law enforcement operations for the public.
A 47 year old Baytown man, wounded outside his home while performing electrical work on Friars Lane, tells police he accidentally shot himself. His wife sent their 9 year old daughter to check on him after hearing gunshots. He was transported to Hermann Hospital after Life Flight was grounded by fog. The incident follows a prior shooting at the same location about a year earlier.
