Baytown developer eyes second district seat amid old downtown buildout

Baytown native Chris Presley, behind the Avenue Lofts and a new ground up project, seeks the District 2 city council seat. The 42 year old uses Chapter 380 incentives and private funds to revive old downtown Texas Avenue with a 10 foot eave height wood framed building, storefronts, and potential two-tenant leasing. The project, supported by the Baytown Municipal Development District, aims to attract one or two businesses, with construction to start after a permit and finish in six to eight months. Presley touts his experience in real estate finance and notes the lofts already draw 20 residents and a gym patronage of about 100. He plans to remain involved in downtown development while seeking public office.
