A community charity expresses gratitude to supporters in a Christmas appeal as page 3 reports praise for volunteers and donors aiding children. Police Beat notes thefts from a vehicle used by the Chili When It’s Chilly performer, with more details on page 3.
Baytown police say three men were charged in the Valero gas station robbery at 3525 Garth Road. A fourth suspect faces pending aggravated robbery charges. The robbery occurred about 10 30 p m Sunday as two suspects entered the store while a lookout stood at the door. They fled in a car pursued by a witness who reported the vehicle to police. The weapon was recovered during a search of a nearby apartment. Names of the three in custody were not released.
The Harris County Clerk will run early voting for Senate District 6 starting Wednesday and running through January 22 with Election Day on January 26. Seven voting sites, including Baytown Community Center, will operate in Baytown Houston and Galena Park. Hours vary by date with several days of extended times. A full site list will be posted at harrisvotes.org.
Cedar Bayou Watershed Partnership members met to review expanded water quality monitoring and address submerged vessels. Sunken barges and shrimp boats near the waterway were discussed as health and safety concerns, with project leadership from HGAC and Texas Soil and Water Conservation Board and local advocates including Gerald Hayes and Friends of Cedar Bayou United.
Cheryl Lauresdorf, a Lee College Honors Program student, was elected to the National Collegiate Honors Council board of directors. She joins another Lee College student as a new representative, highlighting the college’s recognition in honors education.
