Cedar Bayou dredging plan outlined by Corps engineers

Engineers in Galveston publish a draft plan for maintenance dredging of Cedar Bayou to maintain a six mile 100 foot wide channel for 10 foot draft navigation. Dredging may raise turbidity and disturb marine life temporarily and open water disposal areas could become emergent, reducing future habitat. The draft statement will be reviewed by the Council on Environmental Quality and federal state and local agencies, citizens and groups.

Goose Creek Bridge Raised to Improve Stream Flow

The Goose Creek Bridge on West Texas Extension will rise to 16 feet above mean sea level, up from 9.8 feet, to improve stream flow. A. J. Busch says the low bridge limits flow. the east road will be raised to five feet. The 39 foot wide, concrete pavement project includes two traffic lanes and parking, with plans due by February and bids possible in March. Funding comes from the 1970 capital improvements program and abutting property assessments. Loop 201 will intersect and cross West Texas Extension.

New Fire Station No 6 Nears Completion on West Massey Road

Fire Station No 6 on the west end of Massey Tompkins Road nears completion and may open in early February. Only cabinet work remains and a materials delay has slowed progress. The station, contracted for 51 821, is financed mainly by band Sunds.

Tom Langford of the Harris County Flood Control Department says work on a North Main flood control ditch could begin within a couple of months funded by county bond money. The ditch, running parallel to North Main and crossing Massey Tompkins Road, will connect with a North Main culvert to ease rain runoff into Goose Creek.

South Vietnamese defenders in Phuoc Binh repelled a heavy North Vietnamese mortar and tank advance on the fifth day of fighting. In Cambodia, Khmer Rouge rockets struck Phnom Penh vicinity while government troops reportedly broke a blockade to aid a 400 man force on the Mekong east bank. Rites For Highlands Man Slated Tuesday

Donald Wayne Adams 22 of Highlands died in a traffic wreck on Interstate 10 near Channelview. Services set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church Highlands with burial in Memory Gardens Baytown. He is survived by his parents a brother and a sister and other relatives.
