Tampico Mexico authorities held cautious hopes early today that a DC3 passenger plane missing since Tuesday with 22 aboard may have landed at an emergency airstrip between Reynosa and Tampico after taking off from Reynosa near the US border.
A 50 year old McNair resident was arrested after two women were found shot near Crosby. Maggie Guillory, 40, of Barrett Station died from head and chest wounds. Mrs Tomasa Sanchez Avalos, 29, of Houston, was hospitalized in critical condition with a brain wound. Police traced a suspect via a description given by Avalos. The investigation includes the Barbers Hill Road scene and prior sightings at the Black Cat Tavern.
Washington AP Backers of John W McCormack claim enough votes to keep him as House speaker despite a late challenge from Morris Udall. The 77 year old leader met with the DSG and still pursues a solid base of about 90 votes from the South while Udall supporters seek a respectable showing. The party caucus signals McCormack likely in line to win Friday when the full House votes.
