Residents in Baystown near the Broownwood Lakewood Wooster flood plain can buy government subsidized flood insurance starting Friday. The Flood Insurers Association in New York released details showing subsidies up to 7.23 dollars per 100 of dwelling coverage and up to 18.40 per 160 on contents. City Councilman David Igvans, likely Baytown’s first subsidized policy holder, displayed his policy as an example. He paid 95 dollars for a 17,860 dollar dwelling and 5,000 dollar contents policy. without subsidy the annual premium would be 2,275 dollars. Subsidies vary by zone and home type, with Zone A one story homes receiving 7.23 and 18.30 subsidies, Zone A two story homes 5.30 per 100 for dwellings and 15.20 per 100 for contents, and Zone C requiring no subsidy due to low base rates. Homeowners pay 40 cents per 100 on dwellings and 50 cents per 100 on contents, with maximum subsidized coverage 17,500 for a dwelling and 5,000 for contents.
