Baytown builders surge as Goose Creek school district expands athletic facilities. A new Sterling High fieldhouse should open this summer, Stallworth Stadium press box due by May, and Goose Creek Memorial gym complex rises with a full slate of fields. Highlands Junior School and a $240 million 2005 bond fund multiple gym upgrades including two new gyms and three practicing fields. Plans also advance for Sultis Stadium improvements at Lee High and converting the old natatorium into locker rooms and ROTC space. The Sultis project is not a bond project and will be funded from district operating funds.
Lee College regents pursue plans for Rundell Hall as the Performing Arts Center nears completion. BGK Architects assess the 50 year old building for salvage, renovation, or demolition amid sewage and space concerns while no programming has been done. The music building is slated for demolition to free space for future use.
Volunteers and campus participants produced more than 50 handmade bowls in four hours at the Bowl-a-Thon. Lee College joined Empty Bowls in 2007 by donating clay, glazes, trimming and firing, contributing 80 bowls to the hunger-fighting fundraiser.
