City Won’t Bear Traffic Signal Costs Says State

The city traffic committee led by Councilman Allenstersection Cannon has learned from state officials that Texas Highway Department signals are not funded by the state and must be paid by the city. Mayor Decker-Airhart notes expense is a local decision.

The Senate passed a 35 billion education aid measure after southern efforts to attach a provision banning forced busing were defeated. Possible Fire Surety Rate Hike Is Studied

A Texas Insurance Board review considers two proposals to raise homeowners and fire insurance costs amid inflation. One-year homeowners policies may replace three-year coverage, while rates for fire, extended coverage, and homeowners insurance could rise by roughly 1.7 percent, 8.9 percent, and 8 percent respectively. The board expects a decision by late March with new rates in effect around July 1.

Rites for School Counselor Slated

Kingston Adams a 45 year old Baytown Junior School counselor died Thursday night at his home after a two month illness. Funeral services set for 4 p m Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev Burnette Dowler officiating. Earthman Funeral Home in charge. Adams had been with the public school system 17 years, native of Cardo Parish La. He taught at Spring Hill La before Baytown, then science and math at Baytown Junior School, later counselor at Highlands Junior, then counselor at BUS. He held BA MA and MScd from Northwest State College Natchitoches La, also studied at the University of Kentucky and Baylor. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include wife Sally and daughters Suzanne 10 and Jeanine 1, all of Baytown. his mother Mrs W A Adams of Shreveport La. sister Mrs Bille Fay Spencer of Lake Charles La. an aunt and uncle Mr and Mrs Henry Moore of Baytown.
