Baytown relatives of Army Staff Sergeant Kenneth L Hargrave 26 say no word on when his body will arrive in Lawton Oklahoma. A telegram told his father he had been killed in action in Vietnam February 15. The body will be flown to Lawton for arrangements home to Frances and five children Debra Ann Kenneth Jr. and others. Surviving relatives include his mother Mary Douglas and many siblings. He served seven years and recently returned to Vietnam with the Rangers after Green Berets service.
Baytown city council heard a progress report on right of way acquisition for the Davis Martin Road extension. Twenty three parcels are involved with eight purchases already made. The project will widen and connect Davis Head from Highway 146 to Fifth Street and Martin Road from North Main to the Southern Pacific tracks. The plan includes a foot median and an estimated cost of 149000 dollars with landowners paying their share. No bid date yet. the widened road will provide east west access from North Main to Kilgore Road and align with Ward Road across Highway 146 as part of the capital improvement program.
Reports from Sterling reveal the Baytown area school foundation of heavy steel and concrete rests on giant reinforced concrete piers above ground level to prevent floods and ease future utility work.
