The Baytown Sun outlines its annual Profiles editions starting March 9 with Industry, March 16 Health, March 23 Business and Education, and March 30 Citizen of the Year. A large crane vehicle overturned on the Highway 146 to Garth Road exit, blocking the ramp for hours. Both driver and passenger were airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in good condition. B&G Crane owned the vehicle and environmental crews cleaned up fuel and hydraulic fluid. The ramp reopened with highway repairs underway.
The Baytown board moved Rundell Hall renovation forward after rescinding an asbestos abatement contract amid irregularity claims. Houston firm Durotech Inc. was awarded a new construction manager at risk contract. A January meeting outlined a phased timeline with three project stages to complete the renovation.
The National Weather Service issued 14 warnings or watches as strong winds and heavy rain hit the area. Baytown police handled about double the usual accident calls in a 12 hour period from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday. In Chambers County at least six accidents were blamed on the weather with no fatalities or serious injuries reported.
The Art League of Baytown will launch a three month program for 10 adults 22 and up with mental challenges at its Art Center on Texas Avenue Tuesdays 5 to 7 30 starting March 6. Liz Pearsall will teach first and second Tuesdays. other teachers lead remaining Tuesdays. Tuition is 75 per student per month 225 per semester with scholarships sought. Donations already funded one month of classes and supplies.
