Joseph T. Sneed III, a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals judge for nearly 35 years, died at 87. Appointed by Nixon in 1973 after a stint as Deputy U.S. Attorney General, he also led Duke University School of Law from 1971 to 1973 and taught at Stanford, Cornell, and other institutions.
