Ryan Newman finally broke an 81 race winless streak by winning the Daytona 500 with a late push from teammate Kurt Busch, delivering Roger Penske his first win in the event.
Lee College endured a tough night in a 93 75 defeat as Panola dominated the first half and pulled away late. Panola built a double digit lead early and never relinquished control, while Lee College struggled with offense and defensive gaps throughout.

Baytown City Council unanimously agrees to annex 4.88 acres at Garth Road and Lynchburg Cedar Bayou Road for retail and restaurant development. The plan includes future annexation of two thirds of the parcel. Council also approves 28.79 acres north of I 10 at Decker Drive and Crosby Lynchburg Road for apartment plans.
The Baytown Symphony Orchestra plans a Saturday gala at Goose Creek Country Club beginning at 6 p.m. The event features wandering musicians and comedians, a silent auction, and proceeds supporting the BSO budget and Lee College Performing and Fine Arts Center Building Fund. Proceeds help fund free public concerts averaging about 10,000 dollars each.
